Issue when trying to use 2 XLR microphones on Linux

I'm using an m-audio duo interface and trying to record 2 microphones with one panned to the left and one to the right and both down mixed to mono using the advanced audio properties in OBS.

The mic panned to the right always gets distortion. The one to the left works. Is this a known bug? Is there a solution?
